Making the Case for Corporate Engagement in Ecological Connectivity

Situation

The Center for Large Landscape Conservation (“the Center”), a leading conservation nonprofit, approached Blu Skye to explore how ecological connectivity could be incorporated into mainstream corporate sustainability goals while also developing their corporate engagement capabilities. How might Blu Skye frame and facilitate a pair of engagement workshops between the Center and a global food manufacturer to create shared value for both parties?

Goal

Guide the Center in building efficient and effective engagement expertise with the global food manufacturer as its first test case.

Our Role

Assess

Interviewed key internal and external stakeholders to understand how this project could accelerate current corporate, academic, and nonprofit actions in this space.

Align

Developed workshop design- informed by current reality. Advised the Center on content preparation, structure and organization, and narrative for a corporate audience. Steered team focus and maintained a clear target.

Execute

Designed and facilitated two working sessions with the Center and sustainability leads at the global food manufacturer. Guided the Center’s staff in the creation of supporting materials.

Results

  • The Center’s staff produced an effective communication tool to narrate the importance and application of ecological connectivity within a supply chain.

  • Corporate partners were actively engaged during the workshops and impressed by the simple presentation of complex scientific ideas.

  • Re-activated relationships with other stakeholders helping shape the corporate sustainability agenda to incorporate an ecological connectivity approach.

Feedback

“Blu Skye stewarded our staff of scientists and ecologists on how to effectively and efficiently engage with corporate partners to advance our mission. As a result, our team delivered a compelling analysis that impressed a corporate partner and grew our organizational capacity. We plan on working with the Blu Skye team on future projects.”
